Features
Panasonic presents striking images from its new AJ-HDC20A High Definition Camcorder. This 2.2M
Pixel 3-CCD advanced performance camera delivers enviable pictures for all types of productions.
The AJ-HDC20A High Definition Camcorder delivers truly outstanding HD images, virtually free of video
artifacts typical of older generation HD cameras. Its sturdy lightweight package, high mobility, and solid
recording capabilities make this new DVCPRO HD flagship camera the extended performance and
reliability leader for all types of TV production.
Born of years of research, seasoned camera design expertise, and the latest technologies, the
AJ-HDC20A empowers digital cinematographers and broadcasters alike the facility to acquire and
develop content in ways previously unimaginable. The AJ-HDC20A makes HD both practical and
affordable, fulfilling the highly critical demands of digital cinema, HDTV broadcasting, and HD
presentation.
A wealth of operator conveniences such as extensive video set-up controls, numerous scene file
storage on removable memory cards, and a unique color correction matrix make the AJ-HDC20A the
new High-Definition camera of choice.
Three 2.2-Million Pixel FIT CCDs – True to high-definition standards, the Matsushita 1920 x 1080 FIT
CCDs are the key ingredient in creating stunning images with about 1000 lines horizontal resolution.
Excellent Sensitivity – While an excellent sensitivity rating of F8 @ 2000 Lux allows for shooting low to
moderate light levels, an impressive 54 dB signal-to-noise ratio translates to low-noise pictures.
New Digital Signal Processing (DSP) – Offers a higher standard of precision color, detail and gamma
processing to ensure optimum picture quality that is repeatable and transferable to all AJ-HDC20As.
Color Imagery – Standard color is compliant with SMPTE standards. To achieve a desired "look", an
advanced color correction scheme utilizes a 12-pole color matrix that allows very specific colors to be
set, especially when critical color matching is vital.
Assignable Scene Files – An externally accessible switch allows for easy access to any of three
user-designed set-ups, each with programmable color, detail, gain and gamma. [L/M/H]
Scene Files, Card Storage – Camera set-ups can also be saved on a removable Multi-Media Memory
Card, allowing quick memory access to user-designed camera settings for given scenes, or matching
multiple cameras with the same "look". Up to eight scenes are saved on this card.
Scene Files, Internal Memory – A selection of four separate camera set-ups — plus one user
standard-reference file — are available through user menu access. These set-ups are stored in camera
memory and updated as needed.
User 1 / User 2 – Two externally accessible, user-assignable switches provide direct access (on or off)
any one of six operational functions, including Super Gain, Super Black, Black Stretch, Super Iris, and
Audio 1 & 2 (for viewfinder display).
White Balance Selection – Select between two programmable automatic white balance conditions (as
set by the user) and one preset that can be set for either 3200° or 4300° Kelvin. This feature comes in
very handy when moving quickly between dissimilar ambient lighting conditions. [ Preset/A/B ]
High Gain – When shooting in wide-ranging light-level conditions, a programmable gain pre-amplifier
can be set to optimize signal levels — choose from -3 dB to +30 dB in twelve steps.
Low Power Consumption – A moderate 32 Watts power consumption (38 Watts max) means a
reasonable battery life can be realized. The camera runs cool and does not employ a fan, assuring quiet
operation.
46 Minutes Record Time – Employing the large DVCPRO Cassette, a recording time of 46 minutes is
possible thanks to the DVCPRO HD video recording format.
News Record – This feature delays the record stop function from 0.2 seconds to 2 seconds, ensuring
adequate footage buffer on the tail end of recorded takes.
Retake – Save tape by purposely and automatically erasing the last recorded take by recording over it
with the new clip.
Interval Recording – Imagine doing time-lapse photography in Hi-Def. This time-lapse feature allows
for a recording duration of 10 frames to 59 seconds, with a pause duration (interval) from 2 seconds to
24 hours.
2" High Resolution Viewfinder – The AJ-HVF20W provides the essential image clarity necessary for
maintaining focus and framing in native 16:9 aspect ratio. A wealth of data may be programmed to
display on-screen, e.g., audio levels, battery reserve, lens position, iris, tape remaining, reticule framing
lines, zebras (3), and more.
Other Notables – Dual filter wheels: ND and CC; Gen-lock video input; SMPTE timecode
generator/reader; timecode I/O; built-in monitor speaker; front & rear mic inputs; line or mic level audio
inputs; optional AJ-EC3 Extension Control Unit; et. al.
HD-SDI Outputs – Two separate BNC connectors provide convenience for live video feeds, menu set up,
backup recording, and playout for monitoring and dubbing. These outputs can be switched off to save
power while running off battery power.
